ACE limited and its subsidiaries provide property and casualty insurance and reinsurance products to commercial and individual customers worldwide. It operates in four segments: Insurance North American, Insurance Overseas General, Global Reinsurance, and Life Insurance and Reinsurance. The Insurance North American segment provides general liability, excess liability, property, workers’ compensation, commercial marine, automobile liability, professional lines, medical liability, aerospace, and accident and health coverage, as well as claims and risk management products and services. This segment also provides medical managed care, integrated disability services, preloss control and risk management services, and other related services. The Insurance Overseas General segment writes property, casualty, professional lines, marine, energy, aviation, political risk, specialty personal lines, consumer lines products, and accident and health coverages primarily in the Asia Pacific, the Far East, Latin America, and Europe. The Global Reinsurance segment provides property catastrophe reinsurance to insurers of commercial and personal property; proportional property; per risk excess of loss treaty reinsurance products; traditional and specialty property, casualty, marine, aviation, and medical malpractice reinsurance products. The Life Insurance and Reinsurance segment provides various traditional life reinsurance and life insurance products, including whole life, endowment plans, universal life, individual and group term life, personal accident, and variable annuity contracts. The company distributes its products through retail and wholesale brokers, general agents, independent agents, managing general agents, managing general underwriters, alliances, affinity groups, and direct marketing operations, as well as Internet distribution channels. ACE Limited was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
