AmerUs Group Co., through its subsidiaries, engages in marketing, underwriting, and distributing a range of individual life, annuity, and insurance deposit products to individuals and businesses in the United States. It operates in two segments: Protection Products and Accumulation Products. The Protection Products segment primarily offers whole life, term life, universal life, and indexed life insurance policies. The Accumulation Products segment provides individual fixed annuities comprising traditional fixed annuities and indexed annuities; and funding agreements. The company was founded in 1896. It was formerly known as American Mutual Holding Company and changed its name to AmerUs Group Co. in 2000. AmerUs is based in Des Moines, Iowa.

For the six months ended 30 June 2006, AmerUS Group Co.'s revenues rose 9% to $830.1M. Net income from continuing operations applicable to Common increased 27% to $123.5M. Revenues reflect increased revenue from product charges, higher net investment income and an increase in other income. Net income also reflects decreased policy owner benefits and a decrease in dividend to policyowners due to decreased closed block earnings.
